As one gets a clearer perspective on what and who/what the enemies are (psalms mostly mentions enemies, could be interpreted as actual people or spiritual evil) in their lives, it serves two purposes. Focus and distinction.
Focus on hope.
Distinction from the old ways that subjugate them to the whims of the evil.
All of these causes are not fulfilling any purpose if there is no focus, and are failing if they do not promote change.
