For John

I'm here in sunny Chico, CA. It was hot!!!!!!!!!!! Holy shamolly. I thought I was going to have to break out a desert survival kit. My poor kid.

Of course, you know, that my days have mostly consisted of shopping and eating at places that I can't find in Germany. I've only been here a week, and I really need to slow down. I have an order for chocolate chips from my friend Yvonne (you're getting two huge bags, hope that's okay).

Well, this is sort of an update for his daddy. Keane is holding his head up better when he is on his stomach and I started him on solids (rice cereal). I know some of you will not approve, but he eats like a horse and is never full. He is also getting a tooth.

I'll try to post some videos later.

First, we have a little computer genius on our hands. Taking after his daddy. (taken at home)

This is a picture of Keane riding in his airplane bassinet. People ask me how the flight went. Well, I would rather go to the Dentist everyday for a full month than go on a long flight without John again. Yikes! I'll give you a little taste of what I went through. Keane took three naps on the long, 11 hour flight. Yeah, 20 minutes each. Just look how well he's sleeping above.

Grandma spoiled him, of course. He got this new sailboat outfit.

It was so great to visit my home church. This is the Pastor's daughter Hannah. She is about three months older, but you couldn't tell comparing the size of their feet. I mean, Keane's skies to her feet.
She is such a ham, smiling at the camera. Keane and she were giggling at each other.

Auntie Liz. Both wearing coordinating outfits.

Great Grandma and Buddha baby

Hi Sara,
I´m happy for you and your family! I think rice cereal ist perfect. Katarina had "Flammkuchen" with spinach and garlic with ten month - she picked it of my plate too fast for me to notice in time. It was ok for her and since then it was easier for me to feed her different things :-) Say hallo to Nancy,Bob, Ben, Liz, your Pastor´s family and hmmm, who we got to know at your wedding. Enjoy your time!
Take care
Yvonne
P.S. THANKS for the choc. chips!HMMMMM!

He's getting so big! You're pretty brave traveling all that way by yourself. I'm scared to fly to Michigan in June with Owen. You'll have to give me some tips.
nurse him ascending and descending and his ears will pop. A lot of moms don't know this and they have screaming babies. I don't like the idea, but if Keane does what he did last time, which was fuss, the last three hours or so, of the flight, I might give him a little something to settle him down (last resort). He just wouldn't calm down enough to sleep.

I, honestly, don't know yet, what I'm going to do about formula and now, rice cereal. When I got on in Germany, they let me carry a whole bottle of distilled water and then of course all my formula. I had boiled water in a little thermos and then I have this thing that keeps two bottles warm. He would drink and then I would immediately make another bottle. I was not messing around. The stewardesses were very helpful with giving me more water and space.

I'll have to tell you more about the seating fiasco. If you can, at all, get the economy seating, it's one step up from sardine class. I did alright, but that is because the seat next to me was emptied.

Hi Sara,
what you write about Keans meals I think you can do one meal without boiled or distilled water.(his somach seems to be strong! As Katarinas ;-) ) I bet the stewardesses will give you warm water. You can buy instant rice cereal which you mix with warm water. I grinded apple in it. (Or mash a banana) And for the proteins I put once a day a spoon formula in the rice cereal mash.
Nursing during as- and descending is best you can do. Anything to drink helps the ears pop - my experience as well.
Excuse my german school english!
Take care,Yvonne

hey dude
so when are you coming back to the states? we might be gone for the entire month of sept. so keep us updated as to where you'll be when, etc. as if you don't have enough to do-we ARE the only people that you are coming to visit ya know. hee hee. i can't believe how big keane is. hey, don't worry about when you decide to give your kid food you get to make the choices based on what's best for your kid. and i know i'm one of those ones who likes to give advice, but i'm not going to think you're a bad mom for not doing what i do. everybody's different. just to clarify. gosh, i annoy myself sometimes. anyway, love you, and thanks for all the cute pics. of keane.
