Sling or Kangaroo?

Our son at 24 weeks. :) Look at those little hands. It was the first time that we peeked at him that he was sleeping. Precious little guy. I made sure I saw the heart beating, though. Call me a nervous mom.

I've got another survey question. John and I are of a difference of opinion when it comes to what might be the better buy as far as a baby carrier is concerned. So the above link should show two pictures of what I am talking about. One is the traditional carrier out front like a kangaroo, and the other is the sling thing.

Which one do YOU like better and why? If, in fact, you own one of these things. Looks as though the sling is cheaper, but there must be someone that will cut me a deal if we choose the kangaroo route.

Hi Sara,
This could become a philosofical question...
We have a Glückskäfer Sack. The importance here is that the legs are kept apart (it has a Hüfthose)
I would not use a Backpack until the baby is older.
Sligs are suppose to be very good. But get one from didimos! They are expensive but no bad stuff in the cloth. Baby Björn Carriers are very good, so I was told by mothers! Make sure you chose something that you can carry in front and later on the back. These little angles get heavy...!

Sara,
I have a sling AND a front-carrier. Neither Benjamin nor I liked the sling, we BOTH loved the BabyBjorn. I don't know what this baby will like, but I really preferred the feel of the carrier, since it goes over both shoulders and connects at my middle back. I got MUCH less back pain wearing it than I did wearing the sling, and I even had the sling fitted by someone who designs/makes them commercially.

I haven't found that the BabyBjorn front-carrier spreads the baby's legs too much, no more than a diaper does. :)

We have both. We love the sling right now because Owen is small and it's easy to use. He LOVES it because it's so warm and cozy. But we got the snuggly that allows you to carry the baby in the front when they are little and in the back when they are bigger. We think it will come in handy when Ben takes Owen to work with him. We went putt putt golfing with some friends and they kept their daughter in the snuggle and she did great.

we used a sling with jackson when he was itty bitty - it worked great...but i got freaked about him not being able to breathe (he could...i was just always checking to make sure he wasn't getting smothered.) I LOVE LOVE LOVE my baby bjorn carrier!! I highly recommend it! I have only used that this time with owen and it's great! hope you find something you like!!

I had a sling but didn't really like it so gave it away. It was just awkward for us to use and Luke never seemed to get comfy - just smooshed. I didn't have a Baby Bjorn - thought wouldn't mind one - but a Snuggly, which worked fine for us. I didn't use it really after 5 months - except in airports - very nice because your hands are free!
the sling is very hard on your back and neck. - if it sits symmetrically in front it is a lot better.

Okay, so I don't own this sling, but I was extremely tempted to buy it. I've only heard good things about it. http://www.mom4life.com/catalog.php?item=38
Check it out, and it's not too expensive. It has tons of choices of how to wrap the baby in it, so you really only need one carrier for all the positions.

I only have a sling and I really like it. Part of my attachment might have to do with the fact that one of my closest friends made it for me. And I think they look a lot cooler than the other ones (how stupid is that). We also have a backpack that is awesome for when they are a little older (it's not big and clunky like most of them) It's the Deuter Kangakid. I HIGHLY recommend it if you do any hiking or anything.
well, I guess I'm the nerd in the family. Not so concerned about looks. John likes the sling idea because it costs less and he has heard that it is better for the back. He saw a carrier though, that was more like a vest and really liked it. You guys really did make it easier to narrow down the search. Somehow I can picture myself vacuuming with a carrier in front, rather than a sling. I saw a mother, once, try to put a sling on and I felt like I was watching gymnastics.
I guess in the long run, it's about what you are most comfortable with, so we'll see.
