I enjoyed my short time in the Netherlands. It was nice to see some of my heritage, though, I'm actually mostly German (Steiger was the name I was born with).
This Swan looked like it was going to get out of the water and bite us. I think we were too close to her nest.
There are a couple of significant people that lived in the Netherlands, especially during the time of WWII. Ann Frank (Diary of a Young Girl), and Corrie Ten Boom. Also, Rembrandt is from there (I knew you'd appreciate that Sarah). Corrie lived with her family in Harlem, before they were sent to a concentration camp for hiding Jews in their house. Though I didn't actually get to go inside the house (it was Netherland's Independance Day), I got to see the outside.
You know one thing that struck me, was the fact that the house was right in the middle of everything. This family was brave to house the Jewish family merely because their house was right smack in the middle of downtown.
We can't forget about the wind mills, though my pictures are not the greatest. If you look closely at some of the pictures, you will realize that people are actually living in them, or at least using them for a significant purpose.
In Gouda (there is a cheese here called Gouda), there was a ship yard. People lived in their ships too. Crazy! I think that would be so cool.
Read the story of Corrie.

You're right, though, it is really easy to travel here and see so much history. Just get in the car and go.
I'm trying to convince my parents that I really want to go out there next spring. They think it's great they can tour while they visit.
Ok, I'm not kidding, John's and my "ultimate dream" is to live on a boat together, both running our businesses and traveling around the world. Wouldn't that be awesome? Don't worry, I don't get seasick!
